Supporter Spotlights

Outstanding supporters who make our mission possible

Meds & Food for Kids is fortunate to have dedicated supporters who have been around since its early years. These donors, among many others, have paved the way to transform more than a million futures in Haiti, and it is a privilege to call them partners in saving lives.

As a retired engineer, Dave volunteers for MFK with professional expertise and service for facilities projects. His impact has been immense, from contributing to the factory’s construction in 2012 to every major expansion since.

Now, Dave travels to the factory in Cap-Haitien up to four times a year. He leads maintenance projects and does planning work with the Haitian team.

“I’ve been with MFK long enough to see how people have developed. Seeing the growth in their capabilities has been rewarding.”

“MFK sets the standard in international development by treating malnourished children, teaching farmers how to grow peanuts, and providing employment,” says Dave.

Gary began supporting MFK in 2007 as an early board member. He and his wife, Carla, feel a moral obligation to help the people of Haiti.

“The history of the U.S. and French involvement in Haiti is nothing to be proud of, and we both feel strongly that it is our responsibility to help Haitians,” Gary says.

Gary and Carla are committed to MFK’s growth, and have given to major campaigns including the Cap-Haitien factory construction in 2012 and installation of solar power in 2023. When asked to help fund a new community health worker position in 2026, they did not hesitate.

“We very much support the people of Haiti,” Gary says. “It is important to us that MFK reaches children in rural areas, and this new position will make that more achievable.”

Candace is one of Meds & Food for Kids’ founding board members, and was a crucial part of donor stewardship as writer of MFK’s earliest newsletter. She served two terms on the board, retiring in 2026 after two decades of service. Between terms, contributed to MFK with her professional editorial writing, advocacy, and committee service. She and her husband, Bob Wiltenburg, never missed an MFK event. In her retirement, Candace and Bob now live in New York where they can spend time with their grandchildren.

“I’ve been able to see the whole life of the organization, and I’m just amazed by all that’s happened. I hope the organization continues to prosper and save so many small lives. I will always cheer for you… I wish you the best to accomplish this exciting, challenging, and life saving mission,” Candace says.

Randy and Dana Shanks

Founder’s Circle, Legacy Society, and Champions for Children member, donor since 2015

Randy and his wife, Dana, are strong supporters of MFK. Through his work in agribusiness sales, Randy has raised more than $3 million for MFK over the years. Today, Randy and Dana give monthly and have chosen to include MFK in their will.

“After visiting Haiti… I saw firsthand that the work of Meds and Food for Kids truly saves lives. Few organizations combine compassion, local job creation, and measurable impact the way they do.
Because I believe so strongly in the lasting difference they are making, my wife, Dana, and I have chosen to include MFK in our will and trust so that even beyond our lifetime, children will continue receiving the nutrition they need to survive and thrive. We hope others will consider how their own legacy can help sustain this life-saving mission,” says Randy.

As CEO of Board Builders, Carol has spent her career providing guidance and service to nonprofits with her expertise on governance and fundraising. She is an author of 12 books about philanthropy, including Raising Charitable Children, which she has given to donors at Meds & Food for Kids events to encourage giving.

Today Carol is a member of Champions for Children, investing in our mission year-round.

“I have been a supporter of Meds & Food for Kids since the beginning,” Carol says. “I believe in their mission and the leadership which has always been strong, starting with Dr. Wolff and now with Mr. Greene. I live on a fixed income and find it much easier to give monthly than a big check at the end of the year. As an elderly widow, I find this to be a great philanthropic investment in the health of children in Haiti and around the world.”

Thad Simons

Founder’s Circle member, donor since 2010

St. Louis agribusiness leader Thad and his late wife, Betty, support MFK’s holistic approach to humanitarian aid and development. In 2012 they helped fund MFK’s factory in Cap-Haitien, and when Thad visited Haiti with Dr. Wolff, he offered advise to the agronomy team on how to support Haitian farmers beyond training. Now, MFK purchases peanuts from local farmers to use in production of nutrition products for children.

“The impact goes far beyond the very important child nutrition needs to building local business in the country that can expand and make a sustainable impact on local communities. The MFK model is a phenomenal example of social entrepreneurship,” Thad says.
