Economic Development

Local needs call for local solutions.

MFK’s work in Cap-Haitien, Haiti is fully managed and operated by Haitian staff. Our team of 88 Haitians produce therapeutic foods, consult and support partner clinics, and train farmers.

By keeping MFK’s work in Haiti, we interrupt the cycle of poverty and hunger. We support a resilient community by boosting the local economy, and create meaningful change with an empowered team dedicated to saving lives in Haiti and 17 additional countries.

The MFK factory staff proudly achieve the highest standards in RUTF production, including the international FSSC 22000 certification for food safety. Our partnerships with the PlumpyField network, UNICEF, and World Food Program are testaments to what can be accomplished when community members come together to drive solutions.

Employment in Haiti

Nearly 60% of Haiti’s population lives below the country’s poverty line, with less than $3.65 per day.

14% of Haitian adults are unemployed or underemployed (compared to 3% in the United States), and the majority of Haiti’s workforce do not have formal jobs. Many rely on multiple jobs and day labor to make ends meet, and even still struggle to support their families.
