Launching Haitian agronomists
A report from MFK Agricultural Fellow, Alex Carroll:
I am happy to report that two of our student interns, Rico Mondestin and Rostiny Frédérick, successfully defended their undergraduate thesis at the Université Roi Henri Christophe campus in Cap-Haïtien last Thursday, September 15th. Thus, they will be able to graduate with their license degrees in agronomy science after making necessary changes to their paper and submitting the final document. They will present us with a copy of the thesis when it is finalized.
These students were working with MFK on a plant spacing trial when I started my fellowship at MFK last November. It was a long time in coming, but this is a good milestone in our collaboration with the university. The other two students who were working on research trials at the same time as Rico and Rostiny are making good progress and should be defending soon. The MFK Agriculture team continues to maintain contact with them.
The four most recent students from URHC are making good progress as well. They are still working on writing their theses, as their field research trials finished over the summer here at MFK.
