About the Job

The Development & Communications Associate supports Meds & Food for Kids’ fundraising efforts through researching grant opportunities, database management, gift processing and special projects. This team member is also responsible for managing the online presence of the organization across website and social media outlets. This Associate will also assist the Director of Development & Communications in activities related to the general marketing of MFK as an international NGO operating in the country of Haiti.

This position will bring a strong, results-oriented passion and expertise to the MFK development team in order to craft compelling grant narratives, contribute to the creation of fundraising events, and contribute to the overall success of MFK’s fundraising strategy.

This position requires strong and compelling writing, a love of research, a willingness to take initiative, independent thinking and problem solving, a positive and “can do” attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to the success of Meds & Food for Kids’ mission to save lives and ignite economic development in Haiti.

Responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Researching potential grant opportunities to support MFK’s initiatives and crafting proposal narratives and grantor required reports with consultation from the Director of Development & Communications and Chief of Mission Effectiveness (CMO)
  • Managing SalesForce database to ensure integrity and accuracy of donor data entries, and crafting acknowledgement letters, pledge communications, notes, reports and mailing lists
  • Working with the Director of Development & Communications to coordinate the Gala and other special events
  • Developing diverse and compelling content for the organization’s website blog (WordPress) and social media outlets to grow online presence in collaboration with the MFK programmatic teams in Haiti
  • Assisting with printed communications to donors including Newsletters, Annual Report and other direct mail appeals and solicitations
  • Writing press releases, placement with print/broadcast media & follow up
  • Assisting Director of Development & Communications in all administrative activities including, but not limited to: tracking calendar and activities, scheduling of outreach meetings, preparing documents, setting up meetings & events, filing, archiving, and other general development administrative activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two or more years development experience at an established nonprofit or other entity related to MFK’s mission
  • The ability to work independently and as a cooperative team member in a small and fast-paced office
  • An aptitude for writing, research, multitasking, and strategic thinking
  • Thrives when tackling complex challenges daily in a rapidly changing, high-paced working environment with an international staff and evolving on the ground needs
  • Strong communications skills with ability to write clear, persuasive and inspiring content
  • Self-starter, high energy, positive, collaborative, flexible and high attention to detail
  • Willing to travel to Haiti at least annually
