Meds & Food for Kids’ second annual “Experience Kanaval” Gala & Auction, held on February 9, 2013 at the St. Louis Science Center was an amazing success!  Nearly 500 friends and supporters soaked up the sounds of an authentic Haitian RaRa band and swayed to the rhythms of a Haitian dance troupe all evening long.  The “marketplace” that housed our silent auction of Haitian art was a unique shopping experience where guests shopped for colorful treasures beneath palm fronds and Haitian decor.  Everyone was served up a delicious Haitian inspired dinner in the festively decorated Science Center’s Exploradome, which mirrored the “Spirit of RaRa” theme.

Most importantly, everyone was inspired by MFK’s mission to save lives and ignite economic development in Haiti. To all of our sponsors, donors, guests and friends, we owe you all a HUGE thank you!  Thanks to your generous support, we raised over $400,000! By standing with us, you are helping ensure that every deserving “peanut” gets their chance to grow!

This morning the US Ambassador to Haiti, Pamela White, came to visit our new Factory in Cap Haitien.  Ambassador White was officially sworn in as Ambassador to Haiti last summer and she previously served in Haiti from 1985-1990.  Our team was honored to have her visit during her time in the North!

During her visit we were able to show her the Medika Mamba production line, introduce her to our staff, including our new Haiti Country Director, Jayadeep Akkireddy, and share with her our life-saving mission.

Today, we also had the Dominican Republic Press Corps arrive to see and document the Factory. It was certainly an exciting day and we look forward to many future visits!
